1. Firefox rocks!

August 4, 2007 by Callum Haywood

Check out this video I found while browsing the web:

I must have watched it about 11 times and yet still every time I watched it, I laughed. The big ‘e’ for Internet Explorer is the funniest; “Wheeeeeeeeee!” and then Firefox shouts “Shut up!” in that deep american voice and then Internet Explorer goes “Wheeeeeeeee!” again and blows up, only to show the address of the get Firefox website, www.getfirefox.com. You can also get Firefox at www.firefox.com, www.mozilla.com, www.mozilla.org, www.ie7.com and I’m sure there is many more. Make sure you’ve got Firefox 2.0.0.6 or Firefox 3.x (still in its beta stages).

  2. Flock: the social web browser…

August 1, 2007 by Callum Haywood

So today I decided to try out Flock, my first thoughts are; Its a hell of lot like Firefox, on the backend of things, well since it does use the Gecko rendering engine. I really like the GUI but it seems to take a long time to load, but I am running 14 windows if not more. I’m currently writing this from inside of Flock, because it has this really neat feature to auto-detect your blog type and then you can right click on a page and hit ‘Blog This’ to open up the blog window.

  3. Firefox 2.0.0.5 Released!

July 19, 2007 by Callum Haywood

Just surfing the web when I found Firefox alerting me about an update from 2.0.0.4 to 2.0.0.5, and I’ve downloaded. Not much to say, just a few security issues were fixed from what I read…

I encourage you to update now if you want to remain safe on the internet… If you use IE (thats Internet Explorer for the non-computer-literate amongst you), then you NEED to install Firefox now from www.getfirefox.com, otherwise you’ll be finding your computer maybe functioning differently.

Post your comments but do remember, IE’s security issue is a controversial one, as is with most browsers, just IE in particular, since Microsoft don’t often release updates to IE…

  4. Which browser is right for you?

July 2, 2007 by Callum Haywood

Ok so lets begin. If your a n00b, then you’ll probably be viewing this site with Internet Explorer 6 or 7, right? (Post your comments if its not right). If your an IT pro then you’ll probably be viewing this site in Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.x, right? (Again post your comments if its different).

There are many different browsers out there today, but which one is for you, eh?

    Internet Explorer 7
This browser is good. Thats if you ignore the fact that its a fact that it is the most unsecure browser avalible, and its shipped with new Microsoft computers. Not only that, Microsoft ship no *good* anti-virus software, thus, in the long run, you’ll destroy your computer – in cyberspace, not in physical space.

    Mozilla Firefox
I highly recommend this browser, since, hey, I use it :D .  It, unlike IE, is a plugin-based browser, which means that you’ll need to install plugins if you wish to view (or play) media-rich content. Whoah – by that I’m not saying that you won’t have to install anything extra in IE. In my opinion, I like plugin-based browsers.

    Safari for Windows
As you may have now guessed, I’m only covering the Windows browsers, sorry Mac and Linux, maybe another day. Moving on: Safari for Windows, a excellent, somewhat super web browser, but since reformatting, I haven’t installed again. For more information on this browser, I encourage you to read my post on it, you’ll find it somewhere :) .

    Opera
Opera is a, somewhat weirdly named browser, never the less (always the more :P ), it is cabable of displaying media-rich content ans is again a plugin-based browser. My favourite feature about Opera is its full screen display. When they say full screen, they mean full screen, and what I mean by that is, there is no toolbars in full screen mode.

    Sleipnir
“The most cutomizable browser…” they (Fenrir Inc, the writers of the software) claim. Personally I found it a little too like Internet Explorer 6, only with tabs. Quite disappointing, but again, there are never any security issues commonly published about this browser.

Any browsers I forgot? Please post your comments if so – only if its not the now redundant NCSA Mosic, yes, officially the browser Internet Explorer 1 was based upon, and it can’t even understand the “•” code, not only that, page backgrounds are grey instead of white. Ok, I’ll admit to using it once or twice, so its seen better days…
